Presentation and awards

On January 24 we received a special invitation from 8th grade. They had decided to tell us about Great Britain and the Royal Family. We saw beautiful posters with a lot of information and photos that the 8-graders presented... in English.

Yes, it was a little odd, especially to the youngest students who hardly understood a word but they got one thing for sure: that's what will happen when you study English well: you’ll be able to present like a pro :-)

After the presentation was over, it was time for another special part: the awards. Mrs Nikolova, the Principal of our school, took the opportunity to give the awards to those students who had taken part in any extra activities and competitions: 'I paint', 'Me, Nature and The World', 'The White Dolphin', 'Easy and Quick Calculation', 'Let Me Tell You a Story', Academic Olympiads in History and Maths.

There were many students who were awarded, a lot of certificates were given. There were those who received not one but two and even three or four awards!

We would like to congratulate all of our students who represented us in those competitions and scored great results! We are really proud of you!

Electricity? Let's see it!

The practical workshops with the Pankrats continue! Every last Friday of every month we gather together, many children from different grades.

We aren't learning how to read or write, we aren't cracking hard math problems... What we are learning is something we don't usually see in other classes. And it's REAL FUN!

We have already learned how to start a fire, to find our way by using a compass, to make complex knots that only perhaps seamen know of, how to knit and embroider.

And this time there were BALLOONS and SPARKS! No kidding! :)

We used balloons to learn about static electricity. Your hair literally bristles up! :)))

We made photo albums. And they were awesome! Who said we need to buy one from the store? Ours were EXCELLENT!

What will it be like next time? We are sure it's gonna be interesting and fun!

Today we learned some GREAT NEWS:

At the National Competition for a Children's Story, organized by the Culture Department at Sofia Municipality, Elina Alexandrov from Grade 8 was given a special Certificate of recognition for her story 'The World of Grey'.

There were more than 2,000 pieces of writing competing and only 16 were selected and awarded!

All those are going to be published in a book, illustrated by a Bulgarian artist and there will be an audio CD in it where famous Bulgarian actors will read the pieces. The book and the CD will be available online, too.

We would like to congratulate Elly for her success and wish her many more! :)

A different Birthday

Some people celebrate Christmas in a pagan way, others in a Christian way. Yet there are some who don't even know what they are celebrating.

This year we decided to make a real BIRTHDAY PARTY!

Isn't that the real reason for celebration: to be reminded of the Good News we received that a Savior was born to save the world?

We came together, had fun and we opened the presents for the Birthday Man.... :)

Has he liked them? We do hope so! :)

We had a lot of fun.
And all those who couldn't be with us to celebrate together, you may take a peek at the party in our GALLERY.

MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW 2013!

(A holiday in pics... You can't see well? Click on them to make them bigger)

We, the 3-graders, decided to celebrate the Day of the Christian family... with our families, of course. :)

We had written special poems and stories to greet our loved ones and to show them our love and gratitude for their loving care.

We had brought the best photos and made a great presentation with the parents: it was a surprise they really loved. Then we played outside: hangman, jump the rubber band, soccer: kids and parents together!

It was awesome to be on the same team with your parent - Mom or Dad, and make a picture together, work together and play together.

We had to make a picture of a snowman, using directions but without even looking (it was so much fun). And here's what we produced.
We checked on our parents' old toys and we ate from the yummy stuff we had all brought along :)
We, the children, asked the parents some really hard questions. But our parents, who are extremely clever, managed to answer them all!!! Especially Irena's Dad who answered most of the questions and got almost all of our prizes: the delicious candies.
It was fun! We promised ourselves that we’ll continue with the games on a sunny Saturday. :)
When we manage to keep that promise, we will tell you more about it.

The day of our school patron

On November 16 we didn't feel like studying at all! Why? Because we had decided to celebrate. :)

This year we wanted to celebrate in a different way: of course, we recalled who our patron Petko Slaveikov was. Of course, we read his poems and stories and fables but... this time we added something more.

... REAL FUN AND LOTS OF LAUGHTER...

We had so much fun during the competition for best artistic performance of Slaveikov's works! We saw the presentation of the 9-graders, we took part in the quiz the girls from 8 grade had prepared for us, there were a lot of songs, poems, drama... There was a bit of everything. :)

After that we had a second competition. We don't need to tell you anything about it, you'll see it for yourselves :-)

And finally, as with any competition, there were the winners. They received certificates and delicious awards.

And since we don't want to make anyone angry, there was a feast for all the participants and spectators. :)

Mothers, grandmothers, fathers... they had prepared really well and it was YUMMY.

You are beginning to feel sorry you weren't there, aren't you?

Not to worry! We'll invite you next time :)))

We had guests again from 25 to 31 November. 20 students and 3 teachers from River School in England! All our students were really looking forward to this visit very, very much...
Some of our guests are old friends, others came for the first time. In fact, it has been the fourth visit of this kind and every time we have incredible time together.
We had several days classes when the English students taught subjects, we went on picnic in the mountain, we all attended the church service on Sunday morning and we visited the institution for children, deprived of parental care, in Doganovo.
The classes that the students from River School had prepared were in English, history, geography, music, PE, arts and we had a lot of games. It was SO interesting! Our younger students boasted that they started speaking in English :-)
Our students from higher grades are really looking forward to March when they will be able to visit the school in England.

You may see pictures of this visit in our gallery. Click HERE.

A day of voluntary help

10/25/2011

On October 15 our school took part in the initiative: Autumn Days of Charity. Our cause was to give our school yard a facelift :-)
We invited parents, students, teachers and friends and many joined. It was so nice to see children from the neighborhood come and lend a hand. They study in other schools but play in our school yard and gladly joined us and helped a lot.
We managed to do quite a bit: mowed the lawn, cleaned the yard, painted the pitch lines.
The organizers of the event praised us that we were the school with most volunteers.
They gave us a gift: two plants and they planted one of them in the yard with their own hands!
At the end of the day we had a small feast: home-made cake and cheese-pies :)

We still have a lot of work to do in the yard but surely it was a great start.

We would like to thank all those who volunteered and joined to help. We do believe that it's up to us to make the place we live, work and study in a better one!

This is what Joanna Strahilova from 7th grade wrote on the event:

'It was interesting because a lot of people joined and we did a lot of different things: we mowed, we painted, we swept the yard, we cleaned, we plucked up weeds and trimmed bushes. Yes, it was a bit chilly but nothing could stop us! I found painting the most exciting part. I liked it when everyone said how they had fun and loved to work together. We did a great job!

This is what my family thinks (they also took part):
My youngest brother Ephraim: 'I think that it was good. I loved it when people from the neighbourhood and kids from the block joined in and helped!'
My mother Annie: 'I think it was awesome! We did a lot of work and we had a lot of fun. I liked it when a person came to do his workout in the yard but when he saw us, he also joined in.'

My elder brother Victor: 'I loved the cool and delicious treat we had at the end! :-)'

On the vintage tram, having fun

10/1/2011

This year we decided to take part in the autumn campaign Autumn Days for Volunteerism. It was organized by Help for Volunteerism in Bulgaria and the Professional Forum for Education.

Our cause: give our school yard a face-lift.
Therefore, we enroll volunteers: teachers, students, parents, and friends. Together, on October 15, between 11a.m. and 3p.m. we are going to mow the lawn, clean the yard and paint the lines on the pitch.
Today the handing out of leaflets was fun. The nice weather and the vintage tram helped with that. :-) If we manage to get more volunteers join forces for our cause, it will definitely be fun on Oct. 15. Let's face it: it's going to be a lot of work but when we are together, we are going to have real fun! And at the end we are having a treat, right?

Today the new school year was officially started with a celebration in the school yard. We thank all the people who attended. There was a short performance in which students from different classes sang songs and recited poems. Some classes were given special awards.
The ones who were most eager to get into their classrooms were naturally the kids from pre-school and the first-graders. We gave them our best wishes for a successful start of this very significant stage of their lives. School years may sometimes be hard and there may be a lot of challenges but at the same time there are many wonderful and unforgettable moments. On behalf of the eldest students, Gabby Illieva from 9th grade welcomed the newcomers and gave a welcome speech.
The ceremony ended with a lot of photos and, in order to do things right or rather do the right things, Petya Popova from 9th grade welcomed all the students into the school with home-made bread and honey.
Best wishes and God speed!
